Indiana State XC Meet Recap 2019Published by
Strzelecki, Sanchez Move Up From Second To First In Indiana By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Bishop Dwenger senior Erin Strzelecki ran to a 22-second victory in a time of 17:22.9 on Saturday at LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course for the Indiana state title. It's a performance that bodes well for her prospects of qualifying for Nike Cross Nationals. Last year, Strzelecki ran 18:00.6 for second place at the Indiana state meet and followed that up with 17:54.5 for eighth place at NXR Midwest. Annalyssa Crain from Edgewood finished second in the state final with 17:44.5. The Carroll girls from Fort Wayne successfully defended their state title with 101 points. The team was led by Zoe Duffus' sixth-place finish. Gabriel Sanchez of Lowell, like Strzelecki, improved from second to first. He won the boys championship race in 15:28.7. Sanchez was unbeaten during the Indiana regular season except for a third-place finish at the New Prairie Semi-State, where he was simply cruising to get his state qualifier. Fort Wayne's Concordia Lutheran won the boys team title with 93 points. Senior Reece Gibson led the team with a fifth-place finish and the Cadets also had two more in the top 20. Traditional state power Carmel finished second with 112 points. Team Champions - Boys - Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran 93 points - RESULTS Girls - Carroll (Fort Wayne) 101 points - RESULTS |
